schwarzenberg is a large district town in the ore mountains. in 1945, after the surrender of the germans, a corridor around this town remained unoccupied for six weeks by both the soviet and american forces. after years of oppres- sion, a small group of local utopians developed a desire to fill the vacuum with their solidarity-based democratic ideas. the foundation stone for the myth of the free republic of schwarzenberg. a myth about power relations, ideals, failure, geographical misunderstandings, uranium and a socialist germany developed out of its own.

the work approaches the fascination and wishful thinking around this situ- ational freedom, blurring the boundaries between fact, narrative, past and presence.
